Life experiences and circumstances shape us. They impact the way we see and relate to ourselves, others and the world in general. This impact, however, is not always positive or helpful. In fact, sometimes it leads to some pretty significant suffering.

  • Do you criticize yourself for the choices you made, or didn’t make in the past, and feel a sense of guilt or shame as a result?

  • Have you become so distrustful or angry, that you find yourself in constant fear, or conflict with those that you love the most?

  • Do you believe that things will never change, and that you are doomed to feel pain forever?

I can help you!

Using treatments that have been proven to be effective through years of research, I can help you make peace with your past, have healthier and more realistic perceptions about yourself, others and the world, and take charge of a life that feels out of your control.

About Dr. Shoemaker

I received a Doctor of Psychology degree, Psy.D., in Clinical Psychology from Loma Linda University in 2014. I also hold an MA degree in Psychology from Loma Linda University, which was granted in 2012. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Redlands in 2008. I am a licensed clinical psychologist in the state of Colorado. For most of my early career, I committed myself to becoming an expert at assessing and treating trauma- and stressor-related disorders, though along the way have become highly experienced and proficient at treating depression, anxiety disorders (e.g., generalized anxiety, specific phobias, social anxiety, etc.), as well as relationship/marital issues using evidence-based approaches.

In my career to date, I have had the great privilege of working primarily with veterans and their family members. I completed my internship training at the Phoenix VA Health Care System in 2013, and worked as a staff psychologist on the PTSD Clinical Team there until 2017. While at the Phoenix VA, I was one of the first clinicians trained and certified to provide trauma-focused therapy via telehealth technologies, and did so there for over four years. Another role that I had at the Phoenix VA was that of a Study Therapist, providing Prolonged Exposure Therapy for Comparative Effectiveness Research in Veterans with PTSD (CERV-PTSD).

I then worked as a clinician at the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic from 2017-2020, where I treated post-9/11 veterans and their family members. This allowed me to gain a great deal of experience working with a diverse range of clients, from those in their adolescent years to elderly individuals, as well as couples, with a broad variety of presenting problems. It should also be noted that, for the last 10 months of my employment at the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic, 100% of my client contact was telehealth (i.e., delivered via telecommunication platform). Other settings I have worked/trained in include, but are not limited to: a community mental health center, an intensive outpatient eating disorder clinic, the geriatric ward of an inpatient mental health center, and a university counseling center.

Outside of my professional life, I enjoy spending time with my husband, our daughters, and our extended family, as well as attending concerts as often as possible.
